Life can sometimes feel so focused on the individual, making it easy to forget the importance of those around us. The philosophy of Ubuntu, translating to ‘I Am Because We Are’, proposes a different perspective. It is the idea that, as humans, we have a responsibility to one another, and that we are a culmination of the people around us. It is empathy and humanity.
This exhibition looks at community, culture and humanity. The 8 selected artists are:
Asiko , Suchi Chidambaram, Suman Gujral, Alban Haysom, Rosa Kelly, Madhu Manipatruni, Olamide Ogunade and Isobel Scarsbrook
They have each created work that fits to the concept in some way. The pieces explore various interpretations of the title, in order to consider what it could mean to different people. These include explorations of culture, identity and history, in a variety of styles and disciplines.
Curated by Bethany Haysom , Babylon Young Curator.
